Welcome to Ecobutterfly

For many years now I have come to really understand the idea of organics. I went from buying organic produce when available to eating all organic 95% of the time. I recycle everyday. I reuse things and donate things I do not need anymore…….BUT when it came to my little knit shop I was still selling all conventional yarn. A big part of my business is professional alteration and repair of knitted and crocheted items which is a great way for my customers to recycle items that they would normally discard, but I wanted to take it further than that. As of a year ago or so I started to carry certified organic cotton yarn & fair trade yarn, including Pakucho yarn, Kusikuy yarn & Peruvian yarn. I knew that certified organic cotton would be the perfect choice for so many people including Vegan knitters. I personally worked with it and loved it. I was able to expose all types of knitters to something that they had never seen or heard about before. I saw that I was able to make a difference. This website was the inevitable next step. I want this website to be very user friendly and I think I have accomplished that. If you have any suggestions to improve this website please let us know.

Enjoy!

Q: Why buy organic cotton?

A: When certified organic items from food to yarn are grown without the cancer causing chemicals or added GMOs that come with conventional crops it makes our environment the way it should be as it was before the industrial revolution and before big agriculture. The less chemicals in our environment and in our bodies the better chance the human race has to survive. According to the Organic Trade Association organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown.

At ecobutterfly we offer Vegan Organic Cotton/Hemp yarns & accessories, with very few exceptions.
