This yarn is spun by native artisans with a natural drop spindle, made from carved fallen wood & a carved dried  avocado pit. No two balls will be exactly alike given the hand spun nature, so there are thicker and thinner areas and no color or crop lots of any kind. The fiber is a melange  of many bits of other color grown colors running through each ball. The Morrope use this handspun to weave totes & purses on a traditional backstrap loom. The main picture above shows an example of a woven & embroidered tote with the Morrope Handspun.

The artisans pick the cotton bolles. They bat the yarn with a wooden whisk to prepare it for spinning. They fold the fiber into a jelly roll shape & then use their drop spindle to make the beautiful fiber into yarn. This yarn never sees a machine of any kind. Very simple & the most organic, unusual yarn available. The native drop spindle & fiber roll is pictured above.

The traditional Morrope presentation of this yarn is a large heavy ball, but we have wound it into smaller balls so that you can try the fiber at a much better price point. If you would like one of the original Morrope balls please e-mail us with your interest & we can see what is available at that time.

This yarn may not be for everyone. It is very rustic & not a smooth even yarn, so use care when working with the finer strands. The deeper a color grown color is the more rustic it is. It does not have the typical softness that the standard Pakucho color grown palette has. If you have any questions about the Morrope please do not hesitate to ask.
