This color is Vegan. Each hank is approximately 4 oz. and is 40 m. or 42 yards average. It is hand spun so the texture is irregular, rustic and very soft. The average needle used is #13 and it works up at 2 sts.=1" and 3 rows=1" (stockinette). This is an average since the yarn can vary from color to color and sometimes hank to hank within the same color....It also can have color variations from ball to ball. This is the nature of hand spun veggie dyed organic cotton yarn. The irregularities are part of the beauty of this very unique eco-yarn. This yarn is hand spun by native women in Peru, which makes it very special. They earn more than their country's set minimum wage. They are provided food and a very nice atmosphere to work in. There is no exploitation of children or slaves wages. This is what "Fair Trade" means. Buying this yarn helps to promote a better life for the hand spinners and their families.
